We can do hard things and…
The “we can do hard things” phrase is tossed around a lot in all realms of life. In fact, the mentality that you’re not living unless you’re pushing your limits consistently, has become voiced far and wide and to be honest it feels extremely toxic. If I’ve learned anything from my latest certifications it’s that listening to your body is important, performing exercises that support your unique body and goals is important, and building your own support system that includes friends, medical and wellness professionals is also incredibly important. You know yourself better than anyone else and your team knows the things that you can’t see.
But oftentimes the world tells us to keep pushing and do the hard thing AND ignore the signs and stories our bodies and minds are telling us. It doesn’t matter if we are rewarded for the hard thing we did or if we could get hurt in some way for the hard thing we did. What matters is when we are pushed to ignore the signals we receive from our body, we are teaching ourselves to not trust our own innate wisdom.
However, if we do the hard thing and are allowed to sense and feel what’s happening inside of us and outside of us and make a decision with all of that information, then that’s great. That should be celebrated!
So, I guess what I’m saying is that doing hard things is great and we definitely grow from pushing past our comfort zones, just as long as we aren’t ignoring everything else along the way.
