Why Did I start a Podcast?
Why would I start a podcast in what feels like a saturated market? Well, why write a book? Why do anything? My goal is to give people a space to talk about themselves. To talk about their accomplishments, hard times, and dreams. So many working people are feeling fulfilled and productive in their lives. Most people have a story to tell about themselves but never have the opportunity to do so. They may stumble and they may or may not get up very easily. Some people are stuck or have been at some point in their life. Some are working to help others, their community, or the world. Some are working to solve little problems and some big. Some people don’t think they are very interesting at all, but they definitely are. And I want to hear about it all and I want others to, too. And I’d like to turn what they have to say into a story for others to read, feel, and learn from.
When my publisher’s marketing team reached out to me with questions all about me, I got really self-conscious. I had just spent years, literally, researching and putting together stories about other people. People who were vulnerable enough to share pieces of them. And now I had to be vulnerable? At first, I shook my head no and closed the document of questions I was asked to answer. But, after investigating why I had that reaction, I opened it back up and began writing in full transparency. It took me about 40 years of my life to understand my ADHD and anxiety - which I didn’t know I had till my 40’s. Those two troublemakers got in the way of my life so much that for most of my childhood and early adulthood I thought I wouldn’t accomplish much in life. But I figured out loopholes that worked for me and when I had names or diagnoses for how I experience life, I started learning about them and how they affect me. It was liberating to understand myself. It was freeing to understand both the beautiful and the frustrating ways my brain works. And that’s why talking to people and giving them an opportunity to share their story is so important. We can learn from one another, grow more compassion and empathy for experiences that aren’t ours, and connect in profound ways. So, I’m excited to finally make this happen and give a platform to the rest of us! <3
