A new year

What does a new year mean to you? For me, I’ve never felt this excited for a new year. Maybe it’s just that I feel more aligned than in the past or maybe I’m welcoming different energy. Whatever it is, I’m excited for the gift of growth that I know I will continue to develop and allow in to my sphere. Here are the things from that last several years that have become a part of my daily living:

  • exercise (so many years) - running (obviously), or rowing, and/or weight training, or SUP (in warm weather), or boxing

  • yoga practice (8 limbs, 1 1/2 years)

  • eating plant-based (going on 9 years)

  • giving up alcohol (going on 8 years)

  • therapy (2 years)

  • meditation (3 years)

  • structured, purposeful, and intentional learning/education in areas of interest (10+ years)

  • making myself connect with people (1 year)… possibly life-altering

  • Intentional and scheduled volunteer/service that’s more than a couple times a year (1 year)

  • Structured creativity and dream planning time (1 year)

Those are the things that I’ve worked into my life and from them I’ve felt a lot of growth within myself. I welcomed these changes because I had a longing for inner peace, or at least the hope that even a crumb of my all-consuming anxiety would break off and dissolve. I’m at the point in my life that living with my anxiety, fears, ADHD, depression… all of the things, was/is too much to live with if I want to actually live. The only option was to bring change.

So, in order to figure out what you’d like to happen in this new year, taking time to think about how you are in the world and how/what you want in this world, is the first step. What do you want from this new year? What do you want to feel like and become with this new year? Where will your support come from? How will you make it happen? I’m excited for you and your new year!

Food for thought: Since the new year began the two resolutions for this month that keep coming to me are, “dry January” and “veganuary”. Of course I think both are great because both of those things are a part of me and I’ve truly seen a difference in myself. I’m all for it! Maybe trying one or both will bring a positive shift to your mental and physical health. It will be fun to hear from those who are trying it out!
